Vic Varney was selected as one of the top ten artists of2004 in NPR's "All Songs Considered" critics and listeners polls. founder of the groundbreaking Athens band the Method Actors, he has played all over the world, recently concentrating on his solo career. He has recorded extensively and played such venues as the Knitting Factory, the Fez and the Living Room (New York). HIs shows are intimate and real, mixing jazzy chords with "shifing inner voices" (New York Times), Brazilian rhythms and the occasional stark blues.
His work has been described as, "song writing perfected" by REM's Peter Buck, as well as, "Nick Drake with a sense of humor" and, "trancendent" by the Village Voice, and having, "traces of Dylan and Jobim" (Nashville Sound).
Be that as it may, his style is absolutely his own (he calles in "Brisa", the Portuguese word for breeze) a literate, funny, soulfull, bluesy, breezy bossa cinematic, wonderfully unlikely, totally original blend - that works.
